Thoughts on Halloween

It's Halloween! Time for the macabre, the silly, and the downright frightful.  I wanted to start out my Halloween sharing some personal memories and thoughts with you.

I was thinking just the other day about the year my father decided we were too old to trick or treat.  I sat by a dark window looking out into the Halloween night and felt something slip away. The magic? the fun? a chance for some candy, the passing of a childhood?  I'm not sure what it was but I can remember plainly when my brother Larry reminded me earlier in the evening that dad said we can't go trick or treating this year. He didn't do it to be mean, I think he thought he was keeping us out of trouble as there was always a lot of pranking and destruction on Halloween.

Fast forward quite a few years to when my oldest son was getting at that age where some people frown on them participating in Halloween. I had decided that I would not tell my children when they had to stop but let them hold on to this…

Lessons From an Old Cat

1. Live life fully no matter where you are.... outside, in the garage, in the basement or curled up on the sofa. Live it, love it, cherish it. Mulan always has. His personality allows him to take advantage of all the good in life from sunny days in front of the window to cozy snuggles on the sofa to roaming the back yard on a dark night.

2. Never forget those who scratch your ears and never let them forget you even if it means biting their toes as they walk around the house. Make yourself known. Don't be meek.

3. Get back up. Keep getting back up when life knocks you down. Do it as many times as you can and when you're down for the final count, know that you have made a difference. That your courageous approach to life has inspired others.

4. Let yourself be loved.  When you're happy, when you're sad, when you are a grumpy old cat, let others pet you and scratch your ears and cuddle you. Let them say I love you as many times as they want, even when you know it does …

Blogging and Living Life

Wow. I can't believe it's been over a month since I blogged anything. Chalk that up to multiple home projects, day trips, and just plain writer's block.  I typically go in cycles with blogging. I'll have periods of time where I feel like I have a lot to say and others where I just can't seem to get inspired to write.

What's been up with life lately? Well, one thing I can tell you is this "retirement gig" is pretty awesome but every day goes by super fast. There's just so much keeping me busy.

We enjoyed several trips to our place at Bennett Springs, which we fondly refer to as "The Nut House."

We enjoyed a night out at UnKorked in Wentzville.

I've been taking care of my sick cat and making sure he gets plenty of attention.

We went to the wineries a few times.

I got locked up. (Just kidding, I want to do a post on our haunted weekend. It was so much fun!)

And I've been decorating for fall.....
Every day is joyous and packed wi…
